Eligibility

If you reside in the administrative area of Yeovil Town and do not rent an existing plot from Yeovil Town Council you are eligible to apply to take on an allotment tenancy. If you are interested in taking on a plot, please contact the Town Council on 01935 382424 to check that you are eligible and find out about availability of plots.

Tenant Participation

The Town Council encourages tenants on each site to elect a representative to liaise with the Council on allotment matters, and to represent tenants on the independent Allotment Tenants' Working Group. The views of the Group are fed into the Town Council's Grounds and General Maintenance Committee, which oversees the operation and development of allotment sites.

"Greenfingers" Newsletter

Newsletters are regularly published by the Town Council to help keep tenants informed of key developments, and to share advice and tips on successful allotment gardening. The latest newsletter may be viewed by clicking here.

Composting and Recycling

The Somerset Waste Action Programme has produced useful advice on how allotment tenants can reduce and recycle waste from allotment sites, and produce compost to help grow crops. This information may be accessed by clicking here.

Crime Prevention

Yeovil Town Council works closely with Avon and Somerset Constabulary to prevent and detect crime in all parts of the Town - including allotment sites. Whilst incidents are thankfully relatively rare, allotment tenants are encouraged to take steps to help minimise the potential for crime, and to report all incidents to the Police and to the Town Council.

Helpful advice issued by the Police on this subject - which includes a number of useful tips on securing sheds - may be accessed by clicking here.
