This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams. As a composer he deeply revered especially the music of the Tudor period, English folksong and the rural life, imbuing much of his own composition with the modal flavour and melodic and harmonic syntax of that music. In addition, he set many texts from the works of William Shakespeare.
