The South Somerset Disability Forum consists of a group of people with an experience of and interest in disability. The Forum provides a framework within which the problems and concerns of disabled people can be addressed.
The Forum was established in 1994 in response to a growing feeling that disabled people and their carers should have a genuine influence over local issues. Since then the group has grown and developed and now has links with many local organisations and service providers.
The Social Model of Disability
The Forum promotes the social model of disability. The social model states that society should be organised so that everyone is equal and that the physical environment and people's attitudes should reflect this.
Equal Opportunities
SSDF is committed to equality of opportunity for all and supports the work of other groups that challenge discrimination and promote equal opportunities. The Forum is working to improve access for all members of the community.
