The business was originally started by Mr. Richard Loder, (the father of the present owners,) back in 1931 at No. 9 Union Street and the business then transferred to No. 13 in 1953.

In 1980, Stuart and Graham Loder - the present owners purchased No. 11 and combined the 2 shops.  This gives us far greater space for the comfort of our customers and for our display of our increased selection of home cooked meats, pies and pastries.

To assure our customers of the best quality produce, Graham buys cattle from local farms and markets, insisting that the cattle purchased are from "Farm Assured" farms.  This means that our customers are guaranteed 'Simply the Best'.

Due to the general trend towards convenience foods, we have expanded the "cooked meats" side of our business.  We offer our customers home cooked meats hygienically prepared on the premises.  Customers can choose from - roast beef, roast pork, honey roast ham, roast turkey, turkey breast, cooked chicken and our speciality - home cooked gammon ham.

For those of discerning taste - our home made faggotts are a real treat, and are renowned from Yorkshire to Kent and Cornwall.

We have prizes for our home made sausages and the choice includes wild boar with sage, venison, farmhouse pork with either garlic, mustard, leek or chilli - not forgetting of course - traditional pork.

Our Wiltshire cured bacon is a favourite with our customers - it tastes and cooks like bacon used to.

Farm fresh poultry

Using our reputable suppliers, we offer farm fresh poultry - fresh chickens and ducklings.  Also for that special occasion - fresh turkeys which can be boned and rolled on request - for easy carving.  (This service is not available during December)

Having a full game licence means that during the appropriate season we can supply - pheasants, wild duck, partridge etc - prepared and ready for the table
