Mozarts Magic flute

St Cuthbert's Church Oborne Church Nr Sherborne

Oborne plays a new Flute

Oborne is staging its most ambitious opera event yet. After two years of highly successful aria recitals, Oborne in partnership with the professional opera group Classical Connections will present Mozart’s The Magic Flute on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th of August.

The opera has been specially abridged for Oborne by Stephen Brown, the noted opera arranger, who will also sing the romantic lead, Tamino. This version of Mozart’s masterpiece, adapted for six voices and piano, is ideally suited to the intimate acoustic of Oborne’s St Cuthbert’s Church. This should be a wonderful opportunity to experience those sparkling arias of the Queen of the Night in a chamber setting.

Nigel Masters, this year’s organiser, is unsurprisingly excited by this new venture. “It is so lucky that a group of professional opera singers are prepared to come to support the village each year. And the beautiful Dorset village of Oborne on a high summer’s evening could not be a more perfect backdrop for Mozart’s magical music.”

All proceeds go to support St Cuthbert’s Church. For tickets, £25, contact Nigel Masters on 01935 817194.
