St Margaret’s Hospice Open Gardens – Coat Village, Near Martock

As part of the annual Glorious Somerset Open Gardens on behalf of St Margaret’s Hospice, three gardens in the village of Coat, Martock TA12 6AR will be open to the public on Sunday 23rd June.

The three gardens are:

  • Greystone House, Coat, Martock, TA12 6AR
  • Nettlefields, Martock, TA12 6AR
  • Old Coat Inn Martock, TA12 6AR


These gardens include an established wisteria, a pretty walled garden, a courtyard garden, pond areas, woodland and herbaceous plants, and an interesting scree garden. There is also a mixed orchard, raised vegetable beds and productive vegetable gardens.  Refreshments will be on sale at Greystone House for all three gardens. All gardens have a WC and dogs are welcome on leads.

Entry price £5.00 to cover entry to all three gardens.

St Margaret’s Hospice Open Gardens – Carrington Care Home, Wincanton

As part of the annual Glorious Open Gardens on behalf of St Margaret’s Hospice, Carrington Care Home, Carrington Way, Wincanton BA9 9BE will be open to the public on Sunday 23rd June 2019.

Carrington House is a homely residence that has been purpose-built for care provision, ideal for living a comfortable and active lifestyle while having the support of skilled and friendly care workers around the clock. Due to there being steep steps the garden is not wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

A Special 25th Birthday Concert

Yeovil Chamber Choir's 25th Anniversary Concert will be directed by Peter Parshall, and will feature music by composers with whom members of the choir share a birthday: Cecil Armstrong Gibbs, John Blow, Edvard Grieg, Georg Frederic Handel, Henry VIII, Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, Alessandro Scarlatti, John Tavener and Percy Whitlock. 

Peter Lea-Cox is Guest Organist for the evening and will accompany the choir.

Tickets cost £10  and refreshments will be served after the concert.

St Margaret’s Hospice Open Gardens – Stanchester Academy

As part of the annual Glorious Open Gardens on behalf of St Margaret’s Hospice, Stanchester Academy, Stoke-Sub-Hamdon TA14 6UG will be open to the public on Wednesday 26th June 2019.

The garden at Stanchester Academy is cultivated by the pupils and is split into distinct areas - orchard, vegetable garden, copse, recently planted tree saplings, and a wildlife haven. We are planting to attract bees and butterflies and creating habitats for wildlife, including bird boxes, insect hotels and hedgehog houses, and are very keen on upcycling.

The garden is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available and dogs are welcome provided they are on a lead.

We really value our community, accessibility and the engagement of our residents and the public. Providing a welcome piece of home away from home, we would be delighted if you joined us in sharing it through our delightful gardens.

The garden is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available and dogs are welcome provided they are on a lead.

A series of monthly Saturday evening and Friday afternoon dances through 2019.

A full programme of excellent music Ballroom, Latin American, Popular Sequence and some Argentine Tango at our evening dance on the 29th June, 2:30 to 5:00pm.  Cost is £5:00 per person.

A Spring Dance and an opportunity to enjoy the approach of longer and warmer evenings. 

Dancing for everyone of all abilities.  Our motto is “Everyone wants to dance, so everyone should dance the way they can”.

We offer a mixed programme of Ballroom and Latin Dances with Popular Sequence Dances and some Argentine Tango.

Free Tea/Coffee and biscuits available for all dances. (please bring your own cup/mug). Bring your own (non-alcoholic) drinks. Smart casual dress, (no jeans) requested, over 18’s please.

St Margaret’s Hospice Open Gardens – Barrington Village Gardens
 As part of St Margaret’s Glorious Somerset Garden Season, several delightful gardens in the village of Barrington will be open to the public on Saturday 6th July 2019. It’s Barrington Day! 
 

Barrington village is located on the southern edge of the Somerset Levels 10 miles south east of Taunton and 10 miles west of Yeovil and many of the houses are built from cob and thatched with local reeds.

Enjoy visiting some of our lovely gardens and walking around our pretty village enjoying the entertainment on offer. Gardens of all types and sizes will be open to explore and, for the first time, the village allotments.  An additional attraction will be St Mary’s church which is holding a Flower Festival over the weekend.

Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available. Please note however that some of the gardens are not accessible by wheelchairs and pushchairs. No dogs please.

Date & Time: Saturday 6th July 2019 between 1.00pm - 5.00pm.

The Royal Navy International Air Day

The Royal Navy International Air Day will take place at the Royal Navy Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton in Somerset on Saturday 13 July 2019. RNAS Yeovilton, the spiritual home of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, will open their gates up to 40,000 visitors to enjoy the magnificent five hour flying display, meet our Armed Forces personnel and see their equipment up close.

  There will also be a huge array of educational ground attractions from interactive Service displays to engineering fairs and state-of-the-art defence technology exhibitions. Families will also be able to enjoy trade stalls, arena displays, helicopter pleasure flights, simulators and fairground rides.

St Margaret's Hospice in Yeovil will open it's gardens to the public on Sunday 14th July 2019 from 12.00 to 4.00pm.

Our beautiful and relaxing garden is maintained by Head Gardener Graham Chattoe and volunteers. It has mature planting with many areas to explore and lots of visiting wildlife. Bring a picnic and relax on the lawns, treat yourself to a cream tea, or follow the childrens trail for a small prize!

The garden is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available and dogs are welcome provided they are on a lead.

Entry fee is three pounds and refreshments will be available.
