Hauser & Wirth Opening Reception "Makes"

Make's second exhibition entitled 'Levelling Traditions' brings together nine artist-makers united by an intimate understanding of material. Each was invited to create original works to interpret
themes of rural life and traditions, the land, the domestic and the intimate - a world in which materials, people, place and process have been so closely intertwined.

The exhibition attests to the extraordinary skill of the maker and modern craftsmanship and our rich cultural heritage. Many works have been created using materials from the makers' local environment or sourced specifically from Somerset.

Sun 02 December - Sun 23 DecemberSanta Specials

Santa Specials at Yeovil Railway Centre 2nd,9th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd December.

The Santa Specials at the Yeovil Railway Centre are an enjoyable experience for everyone from ages 1 to 100. You start your visit with a train ride behind one of our steam locomotives, we have a
choice of a heritage carriage or a brake van (with a real coal fire) to ride in. Our track is about 1/3rd mile long, so the train ride is full of fun for the children but not long enough for them to get bored.

Visitors then make their way to the ex GWR Transfer Shed, where Santa will be ready in his grotto. The cafe is also located inside the Transfer Shed, and your ticket entitles you to free tea, coffee or squash and a mince pie for the adults and biscuit for the children, just show the tickets at the cafe counter.

We should have one or more model railway layouts running, and from the balcony in the Transfer Shed snow and bubble machines provide a truly exciting experience for the little ones. A selection of items from our shop will be available from tables in the Transfer Shed. Visits to view our full range of shop items are possible by asking one of the volunteers at the shop tables.

Trains run from 11am to 3pm (at 11am, 11.20am, 11.40am, 12noon, 2pm, 2.20pm, 2.40pm, and 3pm).  Prices per person (adult or child) are £10.00 if pre-booked at least 24 hours in advance (£9.50 per person for groups of 8 or more) and £12.00 per person for bookings received less than 24
hours in advance or on day (only if space is available

Light up a Life

Autumn and Christmas are traditionally seasons of remembrance and for many these months can also be times of quiet gratitude and thanks for those we hold in our hearts.

The St. Margaret’s Hospice Light up a Life celebration services offer a way to commemorate loved ones at this time of year, and we warmly invite you to join us at one of the services taking place across Somerset in November and December.

Each gentle, uplifting service provides an opportunity to come together, to pay tribute to cherished family members or friends, and to light a candle in their memory.

When you have lost someone very close to you, Christmas can be a very poignant and special time for sharing memories with those you hold dear. Over the years, St. Margaret's has devoted itself to helping people honour the memories of departed friends and family with a series of uplifting services of remembrance. These will include a mixture of carols and readings. We welcome people to attend any service they wish - please find details of services below.

Making a Dedication

To honour someone special through Light Up a Life, please contact us on 0845 345 9671. Your personal dedication will then be placed in our Book of Remembrance, which will be available to view in both St. Margaret's Taunton and Yeovil Hospices during 2018.

Noë! Noë! Baroque music for Advent and Christmas

Yeovil Chamber Choir's concert will be directed by Peter Parshall, and will celebrate music written during the Baroque period.  Charpentier's Messe de Minuit incorporates ten old French carol tunes from the 16th and 17th centuries. Bach's famous Cantata 140 was written in 1731 as music to be included in a church service. Despite its simplicity, it's now one of his most famous thanks to its inclusion of a well-known tune - 'Sleepers wake'. Strangely, this now famous and popular cantata was rarely heard in the years after it was written. The 27th Sunday after Trinity, for which it was written, only appears once every eleven years in the liturgical calendar - when Easter is celebrated very early in the season. The choirs will be accompanied by an orchestra led by Anna Cockcroft, and Peter Lea-Cox is organist for the evening.
