The Gables built circa 1670 began life as a Bakery and adjoining cottage.  By 1848 the cottage had become a village general stores and post office and the Bakery in 1900 as part of general modernisation had a second story added.

In 1930 with the closure of the Bakery and relocation of the village stores and post office The Gables became what was described then as a ‘Private Hotel’. The Bakery while retaining many of its original features, was reconstructed as a restaurant and today serves as the guests breakfast room and tea rooms for non residents.

This fascinating period property has recently been extensively modernised to provide guests with greater comfort and convenience while maintaining the property’s essential character. As a result The Gables has been awarded the Visit Britian Quality Assurance rating of 3 stars.
